Anbauländer

Vor 30 Jahren wurden weltweit 1,3 Millionen Tonnen Kakaobohnen produziert. Mittlerweile hat sich die Menge mehr als verdreifacht. 4,7 Millionen Tonnen wurden im bisherigen Rekordjahr 2016/17 geerntet. Etwa 95 % des Kakaos weltweit wird von kleinbäuerlichen Betrieben angebaut, die im Durchschnitt über eine Anbaufläche zwischen 2 und 5 Hektar Land verfügen.

Schätzungen zufolge arbeiten mindestens 5 Millionen Kleinbauern und -bäuerinnen im Kakaoanbau.

Das Forum Nachhaltiger Kakao legt den Schwerpunkt auf nachhaltigen Kakaoanbau in Westafrika. Die grundlegenden Herausforderungen in dieser Region sind die Armut der Kakaobauern und -bäuerinnen, die missbräuchliche Kinderarbeit und der Verlust von Waldflächen durch den Kakaoanbau.

Zwei Drittel der weltweiten Kakaoproduktion werden von zwei Ländern bereitgestellt. Knapp 2 Millionen Tonnen Kakao (jährliche Produktion) stammen aus der Côte d´Ivoire. Ghana folgt mit 0,97 Millionen Tonnen auf Platz 2. Kakao macht in Côte d´Ivoire und Ghana zwischen 61 und 66 % des Familieneinkommens aus.
