On Thursday, 16 April 2026, GISCO will host a webinar titled “From Buying Bulk to Quality Cocoa: Is decommoditisation a way forward for the cocoa sector?”
This seminar explores how the cocoa sector can shift from bulk buying toward sourcing high-quality, differentiated cocoa that values its origin – a process known as decommoditisation. This means moving away from treating cocoa purely as an anonymous bulk product and instead recognising factors such as flavour, origin, and sustainable production. Could this approach help farmers earn higher incomes and build more resilient supply chains? And importantly, is decommoditisation feasible for the wider market, or is it still a niche solution?
Join our panellists as they unpack this emerging topic and share diverse perspectives on the future of cocoa trading.

Le jeudi 16 avril 2026, l’GISCO organisera un webinaire intitulé : La décommoditisation est-elle une voie d’avenir pour le secteur du cacao ?
Ce séminaire explore comment le secteur du cacao peut passer de l’achat en vrac à l’approvisionnement en cacao de haute qualité et différencié, valorisant son origine – un processus connu sous le nom de décommoditisation. Cela consiste à ne plus considérer le cacao uniquement comme un produit en vrac anonyme, mais à prendre en compte des critères tels que le goût, l’origine et la production durable. Cette approche pourrait-elle permettre aux producteurs de bénéficier de revenus plus élevés et de renforcer la résilience des chaînes d’approvisionnement ? Et surtout, la décommoditisation est-elle applicable à l’ensemble du marché ou reste-t-elle une solution de niche ?
