Theme ‘Farmers role in Realising a Sustainable Cocoa Supply Chain’

Meeting is intended to build a coalition between farmers and diverse stakeholder in the cocoa sector, to collaborate efforts and implement meaningful solutions on the ground, to overcome sector challenges such as, poverty among farmers, child and forced labour, gender inequality, yield and quality of cocoa beans and climate change.

Meeting will also be used to introduce a FGF/WCFO “Bottom Up Approach”, project to comprehend an inclusive, traceable and a transparent sustainable cocoa sector, that is profitable for all stakeholders. There will also be panel discussions, participants will have opportunity to share their knowledge and experience with others that can help make a difference in improving the supply chain.

Topics

The following topics will be discussed in a panel:

• how can we comprehend a traceable sustainable cocoa supply chain?

• can cocoa price increase address poverty among farmers (smallholder)?

• how can we build a competitive cocoa sector, is it by encouraging local consumption?

• how can banks and investors support farmers have access to loan?

• is climate change and its impacts worsen farmers (smallholders) situation?

• how do we ensure access to market for farmers (smallholders)?

• do we need a reliable real-time data in the cocoa sector?

• how can we improve farmers knowledge on sustainable farming?

• do certification programs benefit farmers?

• should framers (smallholders) play a role to combat child & forced labour and gender inequality in cocoa farming?
