Third Journée PRO-PLANTEURS in Grand Bassam

This year's Journée PRO-PLANTEURS on the topic of "Sustainable Production Systems in the PRO-PLANTEURS Project" was held in Grand Bassam (Côte d'Ivoire) on Thursday, 22 July 2021.

Due to the Corona pandemic, the Journée PRO-PLANTEURS 2020 had to be cancelled. Fortunately, this year the Journée could be held under strict hygienic conditions with a reduced number of 50 participants in order to allow the exchange between the different actors of the project.

For the third time since the start of the project in 2015, the Journée PRO-PLANTEURS took a look back at the project's successes to date and initiated an exchange on the vision of sustainable production systems in the PRO-PLANTEURS project: After an introductory lecture by the project manager Sonia Lehmann, the participants discussed within the framework of several working groups on possibilities for the integration of women in cocoa cultivation, possibilities for increasing income, adaptation strategies to climate change in cocoa cultivation and the potentials of digitalization and especially digital payment systems. The program was framed by several interventions of the rural nutrition trainers, who presented the project's own training materials and content on the topic of balanced nutrition and thus introduced the well-deserved breaks.

In addition to the local partner of PRO-PLANTEURS, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the local funding partner, the Conseil du Café-Cacao, the CEO of the German Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa, Merit Buama, who was virtually connected, also praised the project and all participants and thanked in particular the male and female producers for their daily commitment to a sustainable cocoa sector.
