Second round of PRO-PLANTEURS Matching Fund launched

For the second phase of the PRO-PLANTEURS Matching Fund, all members of GISCO are invited to submit project proposals.

In its second round, the Matching Fund of PRO-PLANTEURS, the joint project of the German Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa (GISCO), the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Conseil du Café-Cacao (CCC), places special emphasis on projects that align with the following individual goals of GISCO:

  • Goal 1 on farmer income
  • Goal 4 on sustainable cultivation and diversification
  • Goal 5 on agroforestry and combating deforestation

In order to also address members without local partner structures, a catalog of ideas for cooperation with PRO-PLANTEURS was developed for this round. Members can select one or more activities from the catalog and PRO-PLANTEURS will support them in creating the concept note.

The deadline for submitting the concept notes for each project idea is on September 15, 2021.

The concept note is to be prepared using the "Concept Note" document and should be written in English. The guidelines contain detailed information on the concept, selection criteria and process, as well as on the implementation of the projects co-financed by the PRO-PLANTEURS Matching Fund. The process of project selection and preparation is carried out in five steps, which include different deadlines. The timeline for the selection process is as follows:

  • By September 15: Submission of concept notes
  • By October 15: Evaluation of submitted concept notes
  • By December 15: Preparation of the full proposals
  • March 2022: Start of project implementation

In it's second project phase, PRO-PLANTEURS aims to reach a total of 30,000 cocoa farming families, improve their incomes and professionalize the organizations to which they belong during its second implementation phase (06/2020 - 05/2025). To strengthen cooperation with the members of the Sustainable Cocoa Forum, the project established the PRO-PLANTEURS Matching Fund, financed by BMZ. Four cooperation projects with a total volume of EUR 3.69 million are the result of the first call in 2020, and now the second round of the Matching Fund is starting.
