Japan: Establishing a "Sustainable Cocoa Platform"

A "Platform for Sustainable Cocoa in Developing Countries" was established by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Based on an exchange of views with governments, businesses and related organisations, the Platform was launched in recognition of the need for a forum in January 2020.

This platform is a forum where companies, industry associations, NGOs, and others share information and experiences and work together to resolve various issues and to “realize a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable cocoa industry.”

The German Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa (GISCO) already has a good relationship with the Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa (SWISSCO) and the Belgian platform Beyond Chocolate who have committed to joining forces for a more sustainable cocoa value chain. They did this by signing a Memorandum of Understanding in June 2020.
